What BeforePrompt does

BeforePrompt is a browser extension that works in supported AI chat websites. It reads the text in the active prompt editor to provide local quality scoring, sensitive-data warnings, and suggestions. Local checks happen in your browser.

Data we collect and when

• Prompt text: read locally while you type. It is sent to our backend and an AI model provider only when you deliberately choose a cloud action such as Improve, Shorten, Structure, Clarify, or Ask Me Questions.
• Conversation context: sent only after you select or approve the messages shown in the extension's context review.
• Account data: your email address, account identifier, and authentication information are used to sign you in. The extension stores your email and session token in Chrome's local extension storage.
• Settings: enablement, paused or disabled sites, display preferences, style profile, and opt-in choices are stored locally and synchronized with your account where the product provides that option.
• Operational metadata: action type, supported site, prompt length, score, token estimate or usage, latency, and timestamps may be stored for usage limits, reliability, and product analytics. This log does not contain raw prompt text.
• Policy events for managed teams: organization, user, policy category or configured keyword, action taken, and timestamp may be stored when a team policy blocks a request. We do not store the full blocked prompt in this event log.

Optional prompt history

Saving prompt history is off by default. If you turn on Save Prompt History, the original prompt, generated suggestion, action type, and timestamp are stored in your account. You can delete individual entries or clear all prompt history from the extension or dashboard. Turning history off prevents future prompt pairs from being saved.

How we use data

We use data only to provide prompt analysis and rewrites, authenticate users, enforce security and organization policies, operate usage limits, troubleshoot failures, and improve product reliability. We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or use browsing activity unrelated to BeforePrompt.

Service providers and sharing

We share data only as needed to run the service: Supabase provides authentication and database services, Vercel provides application hosting, and the configured Moonshot AI/Kimi service processes cloud prompt actions. The AI chat site you are using separately handles anything you submit to that site under its own terms. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users and the service.

Team accounts

If your account belongs to a managed organization, authorized administrators can view member identity, aggregate usage and coaching analytics, and policy-event metadata. Raw prompt text is not available to administrators through those analytics by default.

Retention and deletion

Local extension data remains in Chrome storage until you reset or remove it. Optional prompt history remains until you delete it. Account, operational, and policy records are retained while needed to operate and secure the service or meet legal obligations. To request account or other personal-data deletion, use the contact method below. We will verify the request before acting on it.

Security

Production traffic is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We use access controls and server-side authorization to protect account data. No service can guarantee absolute security, so avoid sending secrets unless necessary and follow any organization policy shown by the extension.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the extension's user-facing features, for security, or as otherwise permitted by that policy.

Children and changes

BeforePrompt is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy when the product or its providers change. Material changes will be disclosed in the product or on this page, and the effective date will be updated.

For privacy questions or deletion requests, open a private-safe support request through BeforePrompt support. Do not include prompt contents, passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in a public issue.
