Why BeforePrompt exists.
BeforePrompt is a browser extension that checks your prompt before you send it to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot — and it started as a personal annoyance.
My first prompt was almost never the one that worked. I would send something half-formed, get a mediocre answer, then spend three more messages fixing what I should have said the first time. Every day. Multiply that across a year and it is a genuinely large amount of wasted time and focus.
The frustrating part was that I knew better. I knew to state the format, to lead with the actual request, to say who the answer was for. I just skipped it under time pressure, because nothing was there to catch me. So I built the thing that catches it — a check that reads your draft as you type and points out the one or two fixes that matter, before the bad answer instead of after.
It is not trying to replace how you work. You keep using the same AI tools in the same tabs. BeforePrompt just sits beside the prompt box and makes the gap between what you mean and what the model receives visible while the instruction is still yours to change.
What it stands for
Three things I decided early.
Honest about what it is
It is a small, sharp tool in beta, built by one person. It does a few things well and says plainly what it does not do yet. No "revolutionary", no roadmap sold as if it already shipped.
You stay in control
BeforePrompt shows you the gap and suggests a stronger prompt. You decide whether to use it, edit it, or ignore it. It never sends or changes anything on its own.
Who is behind it
One person, building in the open.
BeforePrompt is built and run by Khalid, a solo founder working from India. That means it is small, it moves fast, and it is honest with you when something is still rough. It also means the person reading your support message is the same person who wrote the code.
It is in beta and free while I learn what it should be. If you try it and something is wrong — or missing — I would genuinely like to hear it.
